I arrived there with my newly purchased used car. There was rust damage underneath, a big hole. The mechanic was poking through the rust everywhere, making it worse. I had to pay 30 euros for the inspection. All the owner did was rant and rave, saying, "We don't do anything to old cars." He acted like it was a total wreck. What an idiot that man is. I found a welder who fixed it perfectly. I've been driving around for a year, and my car is perfectly fine. I'm never going there again.

If you're considering Jan Groot for your maintenance, please schedule an appointment with this company by email! We're offering our car for maintenance and making clear agreements with the mechanic who receives it. We agree to an inventory before any actual work is done. This is because we have limited funds, and every euro counts. The idea is that we'll work with Jan Groot to create a plan of what will and won't be done to our car so we won't be faced with costs we simply can't afford. To our great surprise, we receive a call that our car is ready and we can pick it up. With trembling knees, we ask what happened to the agreements we made and what work was done without our permission! The brakes have been fixed, and nothing else has been done engine-wise? That's €390, please. It feels like our whole world is collapsing; what will the rest of the work cost? When we engage our legal assistance, we receive tools for a discussion and possible solutions. Communication proved to be very difficult for the Jan Groot staff, as it took at least 30 minutes to get an answer to our question about why all sorts of things had been done to our car without consultation or permission. It boiled down to this: our car had indeed been inspected, or at least we had to trust Jan Groot on that. The fact that we hadn't been consulted and repairs had been carried out without permission, and that we'd already heard different versions of the situation three times in those 30 minutes, seemed perfectly normal at Jan Groot. All the advantages of garages and the fact that, as a customer, you often feel ripped off when you're asked to pay were all discussed. They even suggested they would remove all the parts from the car if we didn't pay! The other customers waiting in line could join in and were visibly indignant about this turn of events. Finally, they apologized for everything going differently and asked if we could afford to pay the €390 and whether we could trust Jan Groot to actually do their job. In any case, we will not be returning to Jan Groot's Garage and hope that the situation will be discussed internally and that if you make agreements with your customers, you will simply honor them.
