Unfortunately, fate wasn't kind to me. The tire pressure monitoring system on my Alfa Romeo Giulietta regularly emitted its familiar beeping sound, and I was clever enough to ignore it. That cost me dearly, because yesterday (December 23, 2019), I heard and felt a tick while driving. You know, a nerve-wracking tick like your grandmother's Frisian grandfather clock. Once home, I checked the tires and, to my horror, saw that the right rear tire was flat. And just before that, I had been making the country's highways unsafe at a peak speed of almost 160 kilometers per hour. A ticket for a spectacular end to 2019 was in the making. Naturally, I immediately called the ANWB (Royal Dutch Touring Club), and they installed the "get-you-home" that was in the trunk of my car. The next day, I was able to go straight to my garage: Garagebedrijf Hierck & Ten Bosch. An expert look at the flat tire by both owners quickly revealed that the inside of the tire was burned. To my great surprise, one of the owners immediately called a company in Noordwijk to arrange a new tire. It was delivered at 9:00 AM, and the new tire was installed right away, while I had ample opportunity to admire the craftsmanship of one of the owners. This, in fact, is typical of both owners of this wonderful garage. Car repair is a craft for them. Not just car maintenance, but also cultivating a bond with the customer and taking all the time to deliver a quality product. For these gentlemen, car repair isn't just a trade, but a passion. They've reached the point where car maintenance ends and a love for cars begins.
